A SHORT OVERVIEW OF PREFIXED VERBS IN ENGLISH AND SERBIAN

Starting from the point that the main aim of this paper is to compare prefxed verbs in English and Serbian, which belong to two different language families, certain problems can be encountered. Therefore, a concise summary of how prefxed verbs are seen in the aforesaid languages will be offered. But, from the frst moment one starts studying prefxed verbs in more detail, they will realize that in order to do this properly they will have to take into consideration the whole procedure of prefxation, because verbs represent just one part of speech to which prefxes can be attached. For that reason, this paper will commence with a brief elucidation of prefxation and then we will fnally focus on the prefxed verbs in both English and Serbian.
