ON ONE COLLOQUIAL ENGLISH CONSTRUCTION IN THE SERBIAN LANGUAGE

The paper examines a recently noticed usage of one grammatical calque in the Serbian language (in English: ‘the + Adj/Advsuperlative + EVER’). The authors contrast the meaning and use of the adverb ever in English and the meaning and
use of its equivalent in Serbian (ikad), taking into account differences among standard and colloquial language.Special attention is given to the impact of English through the media (including the Internet and advertisements), as the analyzed calque is mostly used by young people.
