The hypertext, seen as the key fgure of new literacy, has from 1990’s become the subject of studies in the feld of literary theory. The theory of hypertext starts to develop, and at the same time, the most signifcant authors and representatives of this theory become university professors, lecturers and hypertext theoreticians. One of the frst and most agile is certainly George Landow who belongs to the circle of the so called early hypertext theoreticians. Landow sees the hypertext as the embodiment of paradigms of the poststructuralist theory, and the possibility for testing some of its aspects, and especially those pertaining to textuality, narrative, and the role and function of the reader and author. In the translated sixth chaper of the study Hypertext 3.0: critical theory and new media in an era of globalization, Landow considers the link between the hypertext and narrative, the influence of the new medium on our understanding of linearity and Aristotle’s concept of plot; also, pseudohypertextuality in printed texts and the printed aticipations of multi-linear narratives in the electronic space, wherby he insvestigates the beginning and end of narrative, the relationship between computer games, hypertext and narrative. He offers possible answers to the question of whether hypertextual fction is possible.
